Ride Report defaults to remote best practices and wants all employees to feel just as much a part of the company, regardless of whether you're in the office or working remotely. Our remote-accessible practices aim to make all our communication more accessible, transparent and explicit.
When can I work remote?
Before the pandemic, Ride Report required people in most of our positions to work primarily at the Portland headquarters office. During the pandemic, Ride Report closed its HQ office, and transitioned to being a fully remote team.
As vaccines became available, and transmission of COVID became better understood, we reopened our physical Portland office space following precautions for indoor public space as recommended by the State of Oregon. But, working remotely was still working really well for a lot of our workforce, at least some of the time. As of summer 2021, Ride Report formalized a fully hybrid workforce policy. All employees can work from the office, their homes, or elsewhere going forward. We will continue to evolve our practices and processes to optimize for a distributed workforce.
Which positions can be hired outside the Portland area?
Currently, all positions at Ride Report can be hired outside the Portland area. However, our compensation structure is based on Portland-area market data.

What you'll need
- A dedicated space for your office, ideally with a door that closes. This can be a room in your home or a co-working space. Working in a space with minimal distractions helps!
- A reliable internet connection. We use video calls in the absence of being able to share space, and they require a fair amount of bandwidth. If you’re not sure if your internet connection will be sufficient, please talk to your manager.
- Boundaries between your work life and home life. If you need to take time during your regular working hours to care for things around your home, mark yourself unavailable on your calendar and let your team know in Slack.
- Attentiveness to your communication regarding your schedule. We all note working and available hours on our calendars, and let teammates know when we will be unavailable during regular hours. When you won't be available during core hours, give advance notice as set out here.
Other notes on communication
- We ask everyone to read through the "How we Communicate" section on our handbook. These guidelines are especially helpful for people located remotely.
- Casual conversations are fewer and farther between for remote employees, but are an integral part of team building. We want to ensure that remote employees feel connected to the rest of the team, so we participate in monthly donut 1:1s, and other various team-building activities. We encourage everyone to connect with folks through Slack channels, peer 1:1s, and off-sites/on-sites.
